Benefits
Radiesse is a highly effective dual-action dermal filler that provides immediate lifting and contouring while simultaneously stimulating long-term collagen and elastin production. It is ideal for smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds, and restoring lost volume to the cheeks, jawline, and the back of the hands, resulting in a refreshed and youthful appearance.
How Does It Work?
Radiesse consists of opaque calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. Upon injection, the gel provides an instant plumping and lifting effect to smooth out lines. As time passes, the CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold, stimulating your body’s fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. Eventually, the gel carrier and microspheres are naturally metabolized by the body, leaving behind your own natural, newly formed collagen network.
Prep & Aftercare
To minimize discomfort, a topical numbing cream is often applied before treatment, and Radiesse is commonly formulated with lidocaine to make the injection process more comfortable. After the procedure, an ice pack may be applied to reduce swelling. You should avoid extensive sun or heat exposure, strenuous exercise, and massaging the treated area for the first 24 hours unless directed otherwise by your provider.
Downtime
Radiesse requires very little downtime. Patients may experience mild swelling, redness, bruising, or itching at the injection sites. These effects are typically mild and resolve on their own within a few days. Most patients are able to resume their normal routines right after leaving the clinic.
Frequency
The volumizing and lifting effects of Radiesse are visible immediately following the injection. Because of its unique collagen-stimulating properties, the results are exceptionally long-lasting, typically enduring for 12 to 18 months depending on the individual’s metabolism and the area treated. Usually, only one session is needed to achieve the desired contouring, with touch-up treatments scheduled annually to maintain the results.
