How Does It Work?
Sculptra is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material. When injected deep into the dermis, the PLLA microparticles act as a scaffold, triggering your body to produce new collagen. Over time, as the PLLA is naturally absorbed, the newly formed collagen remains. This process essentially rebuilds the skin’s structural foundation and restores facial volume from the inside out.
Prep & Aftercare
Prior to the procedure, a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic is applied to ensure your comfort. After the injections, your provider will thoroughly massage the treated area to distribute the product evenly. You will be instructed to follow the essential “5-5-5 rule” at home: massaging the treated area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days. This prevents product clustering and ensures smooth, natural results. Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and heat for the first 24 hours.
Downtime
Downtime is minimal. You may experience some temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites, which generally subsides within a few days to a week. Most patients feel comfortable returning to their normal daily activities immediately after their appointment.
Frequency
Because Sculptra works gradually to stimulate your own collagen, results appear progressively over the course of a few months. A typical treatment regimen consists of 3 to 4 injection sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Once the series is complete, the rejuvenating effects can last up to two years or more, with maintenance treatments scheduled as needed to sustain optimal volume.
